But, I also like being me. I like how fresh and healthy my skin feels without makeup all over it. So, I don't wear makeup every day. I save it for special occasions. I also think that because I've never worn makeup on a daily basis, my skin is healthy for my age. I've been told I look much younger than I am. I am five years older than my husband, but he claims that I look 5 years younger than him. I realize genetics have a lot to do with it, too. But somehow, I think by not clogging my pores with cosmetics, I've kept my skin in optimum condition. Okay, sunscreen everyday helps, too. I'll admit that.
When it comes to makeup for photography, I feel the same applies. The makeup should not show. It can be there, but it should be you shining through. I don't like it when the makeup wears the person. It should be the other way around. Unless it's a very stylized concept, keep makeup to a minimum. Use it to enhance your strengths and play down areas where you are self-conscious. You want to look like you, refreshed, glowing, and at your best.
Annie Lennox summed it up in this interview with the following:
"BB: What’s your thoughts on makeup?
AL: What I would say about makeup. I would say that at our stage, less is more.
BB: Yes, but a bit of mascara, a bit of concealer, a bit of blush, is needed to make us feel good as we get older.
AL: Yes, just enough to cheer us up a little bit. The process of getting older doesn’t have to be submission to becoming frail. But at the same time, we don’t have to feel desperate that we have to be young. It’s not about that either. It’s just about finding the balance within yourself, and having the right kind of attitude and a healthy approach to who you are as a human being, going through the journey of life with gratitude."

Below are some examples of minimal and no makeup looks that showcase each lady. The makeup, if any, complements their looks. It doesn't overpower them.
