I struggled with the idea of adding flowers. Flowers in water portraiture have been done a million times. However, I felt the bouquet was necessary because Ophelia was engaged to Hamlet. In order to really represent the tragedy of the character, I felt it necessary to demonstrate the drowning bride-to-be.
Shannon was a real sport. I have to give her tons of props here. I made her get up before dawn, then I made her get into a creek of very, very cold water. She is an absolute professional, willing to do whatever it takes to create a great image.
