Anna wanted dark images so I suggested Goth. She was thrilled with the idea. Well, little did I know how thrilled she was. Just like all of us, I sometimes have doubt about the direction I'm going with my work. I've been wondering if these fantasy themes are worth my time. I think because I'm a writer and an artist, I tend to live with my head in the clouds. Not everyone likes fantasy-based images like I do. A lot of clients prefer the straight forward portrait.
When Anna arrived, she brought two lovely dresses for the concept. I told her about how I'd like to do her makeup, then showed her a couple of the costumes that I had planned for Goth themes. If she wanted to use them, she was more than welcome to or we could use the dresses she brought. Well, the look on her face when she saw the corset and ruffled skirt was priceless. I found a fellow dreamer.
Anna was so into the dark Gothic theme that she even suggested a few ideas as we were shooting. While using her black and red dress, she wanted to add a Snow White evil queen vibe. I grabbed an apple from the refrigerator and told her to give me a "come here" enticing gesture as though she were encouraging Snow White to take a bite from the apple she was offering.
We created several different looks a moods for the theme Goth.
